Scouting for Wenger: Three super Right Backs to replace Bacary Sagna

The Gunners left it late at the Emirates stadium to beat a stubborn Cardiff side on new year’s day to reclaim top spot in the Premier League table. Arsene Wenger’s side have a plethora of injury concerns at the current moment and as the campaign withers on, Arsenal’s squad depth will be stretched to the limit. Now with the Transfer Window open, Wenger must splash the cash to increase squad depth and provide defensive cover at the back to fuel their Championship aspirations.

The London side have delivered some sumptuous football in this season and can ill afford to lose pace with the other title contenders in Manchester City and Chelsea. Even though Sagna is playing well, his current backup Carl Jenkinson is very average to be honest. With Sagna’s contract expiring soon, it would be sensible to look for a long-term replacement for the French right-back. So we here at Soccersouls decided to scout for Mr Wenger himself to give him three options at the right back position.

3. Sebastien Corchia:

The Gunners had been linked with the Sochaux full back for quite some time now and the player himself reiterated the fact that he might leave the French club in the winter transfer window. The 23 year old French International has become an indispensable part of the French club located in the eastern part of the country and has that every bit in him to succeed at the highest level.Corchia is very versatile, which is rare these days, and can play in the left wing too. The former Le Mans fan has terrific vision, composure beyond his years and the eye for the pass by playing out of the back, What more, he is more of the Leighton Baines mould in the either wing who can provide crosses from the wing for the strikers to head home. Sochaux won’t be inclined to sell but a move to one of the Premier League Giants will be hard to resist.

2. Fabian Schar

One of the hottest prospects in Europe, the 21-year old defender in Fabian Schar of FC Basel is capable of playing either or the right as a wing back or a proper centre back. As he can play in multiple positions, he will bring in versatility and depth to this Arsenal squad. The 6’1 lanky Swiss is one of the heartbeat of the Basel side who beat Chelsea twice in the group stages of the Champions League this campaign. Like Corchia, the Swiss international depicts maturity beyond his years and would be a steal for 10m. Arsenal surely can’t let him to go Tottenham (according to the Mirror), but is Mr Wenger listening?

3. Mathieu Debuchy

I still do not understand a player of high caliber like Mathieu Debuchy is playing for a club that does not provide champions league exposure. Newcastle United is lucky to have him in their defense. But a quick bid from Arsenal could change his future totally. Debuchy has good defensive and attacking work rate. His ball control and crossing are also good. He will also get some random goals through his long shots. Only problem here is Newcastle may adamant not to sell him to Arsenal as they did with Cabaye during the Summer transfer window.
