Sevilla have completed the signing of Bosnian captain and defender Emir Spahic from the French side Montpellier. The experienced 30 year old is known for his ferocious nature on the pitch with a penchant to lead his sides.

Sevilla have been looking to bolster their defense and have gone in for experience . The deal is thought to be in the region of 2 million Euros and will keep Spahic at Sevilla till 2014. The player himself confirmed the transfer stating that only a medical was required to mark the deal as complete.

Spahic has been a journeyman throughout his career having played for more than 6 clubs in his career. He played 35 games for Montpellier last season scoring a solitary goal, that too on his debut. Now he will be joining the Andalusían club who are looking to compete in Europa League. The club has already signed three players in the off season namely German midfielder Piotr Trochowski from Hamburg, Uruguayan defender Martin Caceres from the La Liga champions Barcelona and Spanish forward Manu del Moral from Getafe after they appointed Marcelino Garcia Toral as their new coach.

Spahic was in news last year also with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger keen to add him to his line up. With the player personally agreeing terms with the Arsenal gaffer, the deal broke down due to Montpellier demanding an exaggerated amount (supposedly 25 million) from the London club which Wenger refused. Ironically Wenger then went on to sign Sebastien Squillaci from the club that Spahic has joined this summer i.e. Sevilla.
