Mustafi will be unveiled as an Arsenal player next week

Arsene Wenger earlier announced deals for Mustafi and Lucas Perez in his post-match interview after a 3-1 win over Watford. Now the German defender himself confirmed that he is indeed joining the Gunners also explaining his decision for the switch.

The player spoke to Sky Sports about the move. When asked about his relief on the move being completed he said, ”Yeah I am. If a big move like this happens, there is always a lot that has to be planned, discussed and talked.”

Mustafi also explained in detail about why he chose to join Arsenal over other clubs that were vying for his signature. For me its like you said, a big club, a giant club with giant history .A club that always plays up there, always in Europe too - and what was also important to me, its that I've taken a step forward. For me its also important to have a coach whose been there for many many years and takes care of everything”

Obviously, Mesut Ozil had something to do with it as well and the defender admitted he had a chat with his countryman about the club. “I spoke with Mesut and he told me everything. How the club is, how its run etc. Everything he said was very positive, and I was quickly convinced since I find the club awesome. Its not quite the typical English club who plays the typical English football but instead the football that I like.”

Arsenal are known to play attractive football and Mustafi said that was what sets the Gunners apart from other English clubs “The football that I played in Spain & in the national team, with the ball on the ground and moving forward with passes. So I was very quickly sure that I wanted to go there and I didn't need much convincing”

The deals for both Mustafi and Perez is set to be announced next week. With Monday being a bank holiday, the announcement will most likely take place on Tuesday, where he will be unveiled alongside the Spanish forward.

After a long summer frustration for Arsenal fans, this will definitely bring some relief around the Emirates. It remains to be seen how much of an impact they will have this season but hopefully the players will click into gear sooner rather than later.

Arsenal’s next game will be after the international break. They will welcome the visit of Southampton who are still finding their way under new manager Claude Puel.
