There have been a number of controversial and weird kits throughout football history, Athletic Bilbao’s coral kit, La Hoya’s bright green broccoli jersey and Cameroon national side’s sleeveless shirt to name a few. Newcastle had sported an away bright yellow kit which had invited wide ridicule, being termed as “bananas in pyjamas”. But the recently released kit of this Spanish club is sure to top this list and is arguably the ugliest kit this sport has ever seen.
Club Deportivo Palencia, a Spanish third division side has caught the attention of the footballing world with their bizarre human flesh kit. Despite the kit launches of Manchester United and Bayern Munich, their launch has become the trending topic all over social media.

The shocking ‘inside out’ human anatomical kit, made by Italian sportswear manufacturer Kappa, shows a representation of human muscle and bones on the shirt and shorts. The theme appears to have not gone all the way to the socks, which have been spared with a plain black colour.
The outfield players are dressed in red while the goalkeeper stands in purple.
The club tweeted a picture of their players unveiling the kit and used the hashtag NosDejamosLaPiel, their official motto, translating to “we give our skin”, taking its literal meaning too far. Their players sure look like having given their ‘skins’ away on the field in their new uniform.
It is not the first time in football that a club has unveiled such a horrendous kit. Another Spanish side, Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa, playing in the second division, sported a kit inspired by a tuxedo in 2014. Their home and away kits both featured ties, a bow and a normal one.

The muscular system on the uniform is not unheard of, with the Italian cyclist Mario Cippolini sporting a similar skinsuit at the 2001 Giro d'Italia. The suit violated International Cycling Union’s regulation, resulting in a fine which was well compensated by the value the suit fetched in a charity auction, fetching 100 million lira which was nearly 100 times the fine imposed.
CD Palencia, founded in 2011, have produced the kit for their upcoming playoff campaign and will be hoping to advance to the Segunda B division. Their opponents are sure to be distracted if not blinded by their jersey.
