Sao Paulo, March 17 (IANS) Former Paraguay international striker Salvador Cabanas has reportedly joined Brazilian club Tanabi in his latest comeback from a near-fatal shooting incident.

The 33-year-old will officially be unveiled by his new club which plays in Tier IV of Sao Paulo’s state league April 1. His signing comes less than two months after Cabanas announced his retirement following an unsuccessful bid to resurrect his career with Paraguay’s 12 de Octubre, reports Xinhua.

Cabanas was shot at point blank range in the restroom of a Mexico City bar in 2010 following an argument with an alleged drug dealer. At that time, Cabanas was a leading striker for Club America in Mexico’s top division.

He still has the bullet lodged in his brain due to fears that removing it would be fatal.

Cabanas scored 10 goals in 44 international appearances for Paraguay. Last month Cabanas revealed he was working at his parents’ bakery on the outskirts of Asuncion.
