Should Diego Forlan go on loan?

Ever since Diego Forlan joined Inter, he has spent more time in the medical facilities rather than on the pitch. With the 32-year old not getting any younger, would it be sensible for Inter to send him out on loan to Sao Paolo, who are interested in his services for the next 6 months?

Loans can be a tricky arrangement for clubs. Even if Forlan goes to Sao Paolo, and he gets injured (again!), who would pay for the medical expenses? Right now the main concern for Inter is definitely his fitness. If he was fit and was able to play more matches, I don’t think Inter would be interested in loaning him out, since that would leave them with only 3 pure forwards – Milito, Pazzini, and Castaignos. Milito has found his goal scoring abilities again, but Pazzini is not in the form he was in last season and Castaignos hasn’t proved he can get those crucial goals that are required in close contests.
Another rumor making the rounds is that Barcelona want the striker as a replacement for the injured David Villa. Would the Uruguayan prefer going back to Spain or go to Sao Paolo remains to be seen. With Moratti adamant that Inter are still pursuing Tevez, it seems its only a matter of time before Forlan leaves – either on loan or permanently from Inter.
With Ranieri’s emphasis on youth to rebuild the team, the deal with Sao Paolo seems a more likely destination for Forlan, with Sao Paolo star Lucas switching over to the Nerazzurri. Whatever happens, I dont see Forlan remaining with Inter for the next season. But then again, this author has put his foot in his mouth previously by writing off Milito. Who knows? Maybe Forlan makes a miracle recovery, and scores decisive goals in the Champions League to take Inter to the Semis. Would it happen? Maybe, but I won’t be holding my breath if I were you.
