Sir Alex Ferguson and Gareth Bale win Barclays Awards

Sir Alex Ferguson and Gareth Bale have been awarded the Barclays Manager and Player of the year awards, respectively.

Earlier in the month, after the confirmation of his 13th League title, the Scotsman announced his retirement from management and decided to hand over the reins to David Moyes bringing the end to an illustrious 27 years at Manchester United.

For his outstanding achievements of winning his 38th trophy for the club, he has been given this prestigious award. The 71-year-old collects the award for the 11th time in his career.

He has also been given the Barclays Merit Award for his outstanding contribution to the Premier League.

Gareth Bale grabbed his award for his single-handed (or footed) effort in lifting Tottenham to challenge for a Champions League spot. The Welshman has scored 30 goals this season in all competitions, and is already considered the one of the biggest stars the Premier League.

He is the first Welshman and Tottenham player to receive the award.
