Sir Alex Ferguson: Louis van Gaal is right in dismantling the Manchester United squad

Legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he thinks Louis van Gaal is correct in dismantling his Manchester United side and building it from scratch.

Speaking to the club’s official channel MUTV in a programme titled Sir Alex: Life After Management, the 73-year-old said that he has been impressed by the Dutchman’s approach. Sir Alex’s first successor, fellow-Scot David Moyes made very few changed to the squad and managed only a seventh position for the 20-time champions before being sacked by the club.

“Louis van Gaal has made a lot of changes and, thinking about that, actually maybe he’s doing the right thing, to clear the decks and build his own team,” Ferguson said. “Because he’s got the experience and coaching ability to do that.

“The way he’s approached it I think has been brilliant.”

Javier Hernandez and Tom Cleverley left on loan, Danny Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa were sold and Rio Ferdinand, Evra and Vidic were released to make way for Falcao, Daley Blind, Angel Di Maria, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera.

Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson is set to update his autobiography which he wrote just after retirement at the end of the 2012-13 season.

The autobiography which was published in October 2013 became the fastest-selling non-fiction book since records began.

It will now include the former manager’s experiences post retirement as well as his time at the Harvard Business School, the night he attended the Oscars and a boat tour where he passed unrecognised.

It is due to be published in paperback on 23 October 2014.
