Sir Alex Ferguson has his sights set on 19-year-old Corinthians defender, Antonio Carlos.

The United boss has been scouting the Under-20 international for a while now. Sources report that the Scot has spoken to Corinthians Director of Football and former Gunner midfielder Edu. regarding the availability of Carlos.

Despite not being a regular of the first squad, the Rio born defender impressed everyone when he was called to play with the first squad for the first time.

With the likes of Rafael, his twin Fabio (on loan at QPR) and Anderson at Old Trafford, Sir Alex is banking on his Brazilian contingent to help tempt Carlos to sign for the Red Devils.

With Rio Ferdinand coming towards the end of his career and Nemanja Vidic sustaining too many injuries, there seems to be a need to sign a defender, in the hope of beefing up the United defence.

United will continue to keep a tab on young Carlos as they have not planned to make an immediate move for him.
