Spain's Osasuna football club fire coach Enrique Martin
Pamplona (Spain), Nov 8 (IANS) Newly promoted Spanish football club Osasuna, currently second from last in La Liga, announced the dismissal of coach Enrique Martin "with the aim of reversing the current dynamics".
"After the meeting this afternoon of the board and the sporting management of Osasuna, the club has decided to relieve from office the coach Enrique Martin," the team said in a statement on Monday, reports Efe.
Alfredo Sanchez will take charge of the squad until the hiring of a new manager, the club said.
With seven points from 11 matches, Osasuna sit in 19th place, three points from safety.
Martin, 60, spent more than a decade playing for Osasuna and it was under his direction that the team achieved promotion to La Liga at the end of last season.
"Osasuna would like to thank the effort and dedication of Enrique Martin, whose name will go down in history thanks to his brilliant contribution as a player and coach. The club wishes you the best of luck in your future professional challenges," the team said.
Martin is the third coach to be fired in the 2016-2017 La Liga season, joining Valencia's Pako Ayestaran and Paco Jemez of Granada.
