Spanish press blame United for Herrera transfer meltdown

Ander Herrera was close to sealing a move to Old Trafford

Downplaying Manchester United‘s blame on the red tape and the technical issues for the failure in the completion of Ander Herrera’s transfer, Spanish press have accused United for their clumsy and unskillful handling of the entire transfer saga and placed the guilt squarely on the Premier League club.

Mocking the ‘three impostors’ reports, Marca titled its story on the meltdown as ‘Grotesque mess by United’, while AS termed the farce as ‘Amazing episode’.

Earlier, once the news of United’s transfer breakdown surfaced, reports in the UK alleged that the three Spaniards spotted outside the LFP building, who called themselves as United’s representatives, were ‘imposters’.

Athetic Bilbao’s Anders Herrera, taking a pay cut to ensure that the transfer ends in a smooth way, looked all set to arrive at Old Trafford as Manchester United were on verge of completing the big money transfer by triggering the £30.5 million release clause of the player.

But it all went haywire in the last hour of the deadline day, as the Old Trafford club failed in their pursuit.

Marca identified the three lawyers, termed as impostors by the England media, as Guillermo Gutierrez, Alvaro Reig and Rodrigo Garcia, from the Bilbao law firm Laffer Abagados.

The firm, which practices exclusively in sports law, were reportedly employed by Javi Martinez and Bayern Munich for completing a move to the Allianz Arena a year ago in identical situations.
