Spurs expected to name Mauricio Pochettino within the week

Pochettino all set to take the Spurs job

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to name Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager by the end of the week according to Goal, with the current Southampton boss set to sign a deal worth £3million a year at White Hart Lane.

Spurs have been on the hunt for a new manager since Tim Sherwood was dismissed at the end of the season, in a move that has appeased a number of key players, with Jan Vertonghen now declaring his intent on staying at Spurs, to name one.

A host of names have been linked with the job, with first choice Louis Van Gaal opting to take over at Manchester United instead, while Frank De Boer and Rafael Benitez have also been mooted as potential targets for the hot-seat at Spurs.

Pochettino however has emerged as a front-runner after being considered as a replacement for Andre Villas-Boas in December before Sherwood was offered the post and his experience of the Premier League is believed to have counted in his favour as Spurs look to break through the glass ceiling and return to the Champions League.

Pochettino had been rumoured to be set to sign a new deal to stay at Southampton, but the Argentinean boss has now reversed his decision to seal his first big job, having previously only had a spell with Espanyol before taking over on the south coast of England.
