EPL 2016/17: Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool 1-1 - Player Ratings

Spurs celebrating their equalizer against Liverpool

Liverpool

James Milner converted from the penalty spot for Jurgen Klopp’s men

Simon Mignolet – 6/10

The Belgian made a stunning save to deny Alderweireld but could not do anything more for Rose's equalizer. His distribution looks to have improved this season as he will look to cement his place ahead of new signing Loris Karius.

Nathaniel Clyne – 5.5/10

Clyne had a decent game and he handled the threat of Christian Eriksen and Danny Rose well, till the 70th minute. He looked a bit jaded in the last twenty minutes as a goal was conceded from his side of the field.

Joel Matip – 6/10

Liverpool's best defender was Matip, who made his league debut today. He looked confident in passing the ball and was also good in the air.

He should have scored a goal from his header which struck the upright. Matip received a yellow in the final few seconds of the game.

Dejan Lovren – 5.5/10

Lovren did his job well but he too received an unnecessary booking. The Croatian is going to be the Reds' first choice centre back along with Joel Matip considering today's performance.

James Milner – 6/10

The veteran scored from the spot and covered every inch of grass as required. He looked tired in the last 20 minutes and must provide this type of performance if he wants to be in the starting lineup.

An interesting statistic – James Milner has never been on the losing side when he has scored in the Premier League.

Jordan Henderson – 7/10

Amidst criticism, Henderson performed well in the deep-lying role and kept Alli quiet through the 90 minutes. He was another player to be booked in this closely contested game.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 5/10

The Dutchman was impressive against Arsenal but could not justify his selection in the team. He was good when going forward but was beaten far too easily at times.

Adam Lallana – 6/10

Lallana showed immense work rate. He kept the play ticking at all times, as he dictated the tempo of the game. He had a chance late on to win the game for Liverpool.

Sadio Mane – 6.5/10

Mane again showed electric pace and was a threat everytime he received the ball. The Senegalese received a yellow card early and was lucky to stay on the pitch as he committed many fouls even after receiving a caution.

Philippe Coutinho – 5/10

The situation would have been very different if Coutinho had slotted home an easy chance right at the start of the game. The Brazilian was poor throughout his 69 minutes and could not influence the Reds.

Roberto Firmino – 6/10

Firmino won the penalty, which was his first contribution to a goal this season for Liverpool. Firmino looked sharp but could not find the end product which could have won the game for the Reds.

Substitutes

Divock Origi – 5.5/10

It was an unusual performance from Origi as he did not show his usual pace in chasing the ball and also lost possession far too many times.

Daniel Sturridge – N/A

Sturridge played just five minutes and would have been disappointed that he was not brought on ahead of Divock Origi.

Kevin Stewart – N/A

The youngster played just the final few seconds of the game as Klopp introduced him to see off the game.
