Sterling deal imminent, says Rodgers

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says he expects youngster Raheem Sterling to put pen to paper on a new long term deal at Anfield very shortly.

Sterling turned 18 this month and so can now sign permanent terms with the Reds, where he has broken into first team on a regular basis this season.

“That will be resolved fairly soon, I’m sure.” Rodgers said after saturday’s 3-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa. He has got a special ability that whatever is going on it doesn’t affect him.”

Sterling has made many fans since bursting into the first team this season. He was also awarded with the first England international cap last month against Sweeden.

The former QPR youth winger became the second youngest player to score for Liverpool when he opened his goal scoring account Reading earlier this season.

The Reds will breathe a sigh of relief when he signs a new deal with the club, with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal thought to be interested in securing the young talent who’s current deal expires in 2014.
