Strootman will eventually join Manchester United, says Dick Advocaat

Roma’s Kevin Strootman

Kevin Strootman joined Italian side AS Roma from PSV Eindhoven in a deal worth around €17 million. The fact that he largely went uncontested was a surprise to many, especially as it was rumoured that Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United were huge admirers of the Dutchman.

But former PSV manager, Dick Advocaat, believes that Strootman’s form at Roma will ensure that he becomes a Red Devil sooner rather than later.

Advocaat, who managed Strootman last season at PSV, said he was surprised how none of the top clubs came forward to sign Strootman, but feels that Roma’s early form, in which his former player has had a key role to play, will make clubs sit up and take notice again.

“Strootman is a pure professional,” Advocaat told Algemeen Dagblad.

“It frankly surprised me that he did not get to the absolute top last summer and was on the side a little.”

“I do not think he will stay at Roma that long. If Kevin is at this level, he will be plucked away.”

“And then it will be a team of the calibre of Manchester United.”, remarked Advocaat.

Strootman has 2 goals and 5 assists in 11 appearances for Roma this season, who are currently joint top of Serie A.
