Suarez to join Arsenal?

Suarez is a name which in recent times has had connotations with a ‘racist’ Uruguayan who was recently handed an 8 match ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra.

However this article is not about Luis Suarez. Matias Suarez is a 23 year old Argentine forward currently playing for the Jupiler Pro League side Anderlecht, who last season finished in third place.

He ended the 2010/2011 season with 10 goals and 7 assists in all competitions, averaging a goal every 327 minutes. I agree it’s not much to look at considering the standard of his opponents (no disrespect) but this season Suarez has taken him game to new heights. With 14 goals and 10 assists in 26 games, he has already beaten his tally for last season. Not just that but he now averages one goal every 154 minutes, a huge improvement. It appears this improvement from the £10m man has caught the eye of Arsene Wenger.Anderlecht manager Ariël Jacobs has always had faith in the player, who is primarily a striker but also comfortable in the hole or on either flank “My relationship with Suárez has not changed,” the coach said. “From his first match I recognised his pace and ability, but every new player has ups and downs. I tried to guide him as much as possible in that process. His difficult seasons never really worried me.”“Whether we will see the good Suárez all season is hard to predict, but he has certainly become physically stronger,” added Jacobs. “In his first seasons he went to ground all the time, but against AEK he stayed on his feet and scored while they were hanging off him.”Suarez is quoted by the Argentine press as saying “I do dream of a big transfer, but for now it seems quiet.” “There are two clubs interested, but if it does not happen this winter – so be it and I will then do everything to make Anderlecht champions.” Arsenal fans may prefer a big name signing like Podolski, but it is unlikely the Koln striker will leave this transfer window with Euro 2012 on the horizon. Suarez is a player who is technically assured and scores a variety of goals, long range efforts, tap ins, headers and solo efforts.

Suarez seems to have it all and this season has added some consistency to his game, whether he signs for Arsenal is another thing.
