The Spanish Confusion: Story Of Barcelona Arriving Late For The Match

FC Barcelona arrived late to Estadio Reyno De Navarra, the home ground of FC Osasuna, for the away match of the 14th week resulting from a story of huge misunderstanding and confusion. The Whole StoryAs always FC Barcelona planned their away trip to Osasuna on the matchday morning. But by Friday all the parties concerned were informed that there might be a problem in getting a flight due to the Air Traffic Controllers’ strike in Spain. When FC Barcelona contacted Spanish football federation (RFEF) there was an assurance that the matter will be looked into and discussing with Spanish Air Authorities (AENA) arrangements for flight would be made. So the plan of flying on the matchday morning remained intact. The next morning, AENA informed that the scheduled flight was cancelled but an arrangement of a special flight was guaranteed. But in the morning at 9:00 am, when the team was getting ready for the flight AENA informed about their inability of making any arrangement for a flight.

running for the train

Looking at the intensity of the matter Barcelona officials contacted RFEF and it was decided to postpone the game to Sunday 5 pm. However, Osasuna FC expressed their inablity to shift the match as they were not informed about the postponement beforehand. RFEF and Spanish League (LFP) then informed Barcelona that the match was to be held on Saturday evening only and if the team failed to reach ground by 20:30 (scheduled time was 20:00) they would lose three points.Team Barcelona started their journey in a hurry left by train to Zaragoza and then by bus to Pamplona at a speed of 110 km/h. Amid a lots of chaos and confusion they reached ground at 20:02 and the match started 45 minutes late. Even after the long journey, Barcelona excelled in the match and won it 3-0 thanks to two goals from Messi and one from Pedro. The Parties ConcernedRFEF:The Spanish football federation deserves the lion’s share in causing this confusion. Firstly, they should not have taken the matters of flight in their hand and consult for arrangement of flights. The travelling was the responsibility of the team concerned and not their headache. Secondly, before taking a decision about postponement they should have contact both the concerned parties and not inform one of them after the decision was taken.FC Barcelona:However, the responsibility of FC Barcelona can not be ignored in such a case. Knowing about the confusion that was created due to air strike Barcelona should have sent their team a day earlier like most other teams have done. Depending on the assurance of AENA and appealing for delaying the match in the matchday afternoon was not a very safe role to play for the club. President Sandro Rossell should have taken a step ahead and send the team on friday.

even such a confusion can’t stop Barca

Osasuna FCThe role of Osasuna FC may sound selfish and non-cooperative but looking into the matter from their angle makes the things look better. They were informed a few hours before the kick-off that the match was to be postponed. Such a hurried decision was tough for the club to make as they were to answer to the fans and supporters who had bought the tickets and were to be present in the stadium in a few hours. At a time when people are losing interest from Spanish League due its lack of competition, such a chaos puts it in a worse situation. It speaks up aloud about the mismanagement and confusion that is going on in the federation. Let’s just hope that such mistakes are not repeated in future and fans get to see their beloved stars play instead of worrying whether they will reach the ground or not.
