When two global celebrities come together, it most often becomes a subject of international interest and hoopla. The story of Shakira and Spanish footballer Gerard Pique is one such similar tale. 2010 Football World Cup – Waka Waka
Most of us would remember the Waka Waka song which aired during the 2010 Football World Cup in Africa. It was the official song of that tournament and was written and performed upon by Shakira.
Gerard was a part of the video too. You can see him appear exactly at 1:10 in this video. Shakira and Pique met during the filming of this video and the two apparently hit off instantly.
The two initially dismissed talks about their relationship as false. However, there were talks in various Spanish media outlets about a possible affair. Several gossip magazines published photographs of the couple holding hands together and kissing in Barcelona.
Barcelona-based newspaper El Periodico de Catalunya claimed they had a string of secret encounters following their initial meeting. It said they both spent a night in the seven-room Hotel Atzaro in Ibiza last July. The footballer is said to have arrived and left wearing the same clothes.
The couple went public with their relationship in March 2011 when Shakira put the confirmation about them on Twitter and Facebook.
She posted a picture of them together on twitter. The romantic snap shows the smiling pair in front of a beach setting, with bright sun beaming down on their faces and their arms wrapped around each other, with the simple message: 'I present to you my sunshine.'
Later on, Shakira talked openly about their relationship and talked about how the two came together as a pair.
"I met my son's dad because he was actually playing at the World Cup and he said, 'I am gonna win this World Cup, so I can see you at the finals,' and he won," said Shakira, who was performing at the World Cup that year.
Shakira had also commented about Gerrard: “I know he’s the one person who is with me not because of any interest other than the love that unites us.”
The pop star has also thanked football for changing her life and bringing Gerard into it. In an interview given just before the closing ceremony of the 2014 football World Cup, Shakira had commented: “I will never forget that I met the love of my life at the World Cup.”

The two have been together ever since and have also raised two kids together. Their first child was born in January 2013, and he was named Milan.
Their first child’s name has a special meaning, which Shakira pointed out in his birth announcement. It means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic, and in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious. In Sanskrit, it means unification.
As Shakira is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, they collaborated with the organization to host a virtual baby shower, which enabled people to give a gift to babies in need.
The couple now have two kids in the family, and seem to enjoy every bit of their family life, which helps them relax from their busy careers. Their love story is truly a kind of a modern romantic fairy tale, and both seem to be very happy together.
