Portuguese teenage sensation, Diogo Dalot is proving to be a smart acquisition for Manchester United, especially considering his age and the price that the Red Devils paid FC Porto to acquire his services. United paid just £19million to sign the 19-year-old during the summer transfer window. In an era where elite full-backs demand £50m+ in fees, the Premier League giants have unearthed a gem and Dalot's value must now be double.

The Portuguese was originally bought as a right back with the aim of replacing the aging Antonio Valencia, but in recent weeks, he has been deployed at the right wing.

Jose Mourinho billed Dalot as United's right-back for the next 10 years. The Portuguese, 19, still has just 10 starts to his name so far this season but he has comfortably been United's standout summer signing. At such a junior level, he may have already created a unique legacy at Old Trafford.

When Manchester United went 1-0 down against Southampton recently, they clearly needed a spark from the bench to make a difference,as Alexis Sanchez just wasn’t able to show his magic. The Chilean wasn’t able to have any impact on the match and rarely troubled the opposition goalkeeper. Then Dalot came on and United quickly became a different side.He played as a right winger and was able to hug the touchline and deliver crosses into the box that the Red Devils craved.

Against PSG in the Champions League, Dalot was a surprise exclusion from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad. Bailly was being played out of position at right back and was at fault for the first PSG goal. Dalot came on in the 36th minute and United looked found their groove.

Dalot also took the shot that led to the controversial penalty decision that Manchester United converted to win the game and secure their passage into the next round - a huge statement in an important game.

With the teenager displaying such promise at this early stage of his Manchester United career, there is a huge possibility that he could become one of the finest defenders in the Premier League in the near future.
