Theo Walcott Impressed With Gervinho, Hopes For Good League Start

Arsenal striker Theo Walcott has given his stamp of approval to new signing Gervinho and said that he has the potential to become a star at the Emirates if he gels with the team quickly. Although he was mindful of not putting too much pressure on his shoulders, he was optimistic about the new boy from Lille leaving his mark on Arsenal.

Walcott ready to form Gervinho partnership

Speaking to the official website of the club, Walcott said that Gervinho would be a ‘breath of fresh air’ at the club and lauded his speed of movement and quickness on the ball. He was expectant of forming a lethal partnership on the wings with the Ivorian next season.

He said-

“Gervinho will be a breath of fresh air, I think. He looks a great talent.

“You can tell he can bring goals, he has got plenty of pace about him and he is very comfortable on the ball. I am looking forward to playing with him.

“You don’t want to put too much pressure on him but I am sure he can deal with that.”

Walcott also said that they owed the fans a good start to next season, as they had been very patient and unyielding throughout the barren period Arsenal have recently undergone. He underlined the importance of next season for the club and the dire need for them to win a tangible piece of silverware, both for the fans and themselves.

He said-

“Without a doubt [we owe the fans],”

“They have been so loyal to us when we have not been winning trophies which we should be for such a big club.”

“As players we are disappointed in ourselves but that is in the past now. This year is a massive one for everyone, for the Club itself. The fans are very important to us all and hopefully we can make them proud.”

Arsenal have a glut of big fixtures lined up at the start of the season, including the two-legged champions league qualifier and matches against Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle. It remains to be seen whether they get off to a good start or fall by the wayside in August itself. Stay tuned for more in this regard.
