Thierry Henry expresses desire to become Arsenal manager

Arsenal's Captain, Frenchman Thierry Hen

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has states that he would one day want to be the manager of the club at which he is considered a demi-god.

Henry has expressed his desire to become the Arsenal boss in the future but has also stated that he would only consider such a move after current Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger decides to call it a day.

Speaking on the Graham Norton Show, he said: “The thing is I have so much respect for Arsene, and if it does happen eventually, one day, it is going to have to be after him.

“I don’t actually want to talk about it right now because he is doing such a great job, but hopefully after him, yes.”

Henry, who moved to Arsenal from Juventus in 1999, played 8 years for the North-London club and scored 174 goals in 254 appearances which made him the club’s all-time leading goalscorer. Henry was also a huge factor in the success of the ‘Invincibles’ who won two Premier League titles in 2002 and 2004 as well as claiming 3 FA Cup victories.

Henry, however, shocked the footballing world when he decided to move to FC Barcelona in the summer of 2007. The Frenchman has now revealed the torturous time he had while making the call to quit the club which turned him into a global superstar.

“It was hard and I cried – it wasn’t an easy thing to do. But the team wasn’t going the way I wanted it to. I don’t regret leaving.” Henry said of his move to quit Arsenal to join Barcelona.

The 36-year old striker now plays in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in America for New York Red Bulls but admits that his future beyond the end of his current contract remains unknown. Although it looks unlikely, Henry has not ruled out a return to Europe just yet.

“Nobody really knows who I am and you can be yourself there. I enjoy not being recognised. I still have one year on my contract so I will see how it goes and see what the offers are after that.”
