Three reasons why Schalke's Julian Draxler is perfect for Arsenal

Julian Draxler

There are some moments in life when you just sit back and enjoy what you see, admire a player, his presence, his dazzling abilities and the ease with which he turns an opposing defender and shies his way past or shoots a spectacular volley with thumps the net. If at all there is one player who first comes to mind, as the January Transfer Window is imminent in a month and a half’s time, its Schalke’s Julian Draxler.

Draxler worked his way through the ranks at Schalke and much before his celebrated debut behind closed doors he was making noises for his displays in the youth level. In 2011, Draxler won the Fritz Walter Medal at the under 18 level, an award that recognizes potential among the U17, 18 and 19 levels in German Football. In no time the young German was touted as a potential who could go on and become of the world’s best ever playmakers drawing comparisons with his national teammate Mesut ozil, now at Arsenal. Speaking of Arsenal, let me fantasize why they need the young Scahlke player at the Emirates come at the end of the January Transfer Window.

Style of play

The 20 year old’s meteoric rise hasn’t come as a surprise to anyone who has seen him behind closed doors or the youth level. An attacking playmaker who can definitely play as a second striker is sure to enhance an Arsenal squad who are on the look out for a new striker this January. His defensive abilities have been questioned and critics have labelled him as someone who doesn’t track back to help his side’s defence but they don’t realize that he has age on his hands and has immense calibre to raise his already brilliant game to the next level. If at all he does come to Arsenal Wenger might use him as the second striker playing in the pockets just behind Giroud which might reap huge benefits.

Flair and technique

Draxler has always been pointed as someone who can change a game by the scruff of the neck albeit his sheer ability on the ball. His dynamism, youthful exuberance and poise on the ball is being reckoned and compared to the Great Dane Michael Laudrup who could pick a pass from anywhere on the pitch. Even though the Gunners have a plethora of midfielders at their disposal, some one like Draxler will bring that extra creativity which can unlock the toughest of games in the second half of the campaign. With Arsenal being reckoned as Genuine Title Contenders,Draxler might be more than just an addition to their already impressive squad and yes he won’t come cheap!

Wenger’s love for Germans

Well we all know Wenger’s love affair of getting an annual French acquisition in every Transfer Window. But his Love for Germans isn’t new too. Remember Jens Lehmann, who performed his hearts out at Highbury! With the likes of Ozil, Podolski and Mertesacker also proving their worth, it might be a platform where itsperhaps too hard to fail.
