Tim Howard makes spectacular flying save in Everton's 1-0 victory over Southampton

Everton’s Tim Howard and Phil Jagielka celebrate against Southampton

Tim Howard, the American goalkeeper, may be getting into the later stages of his career at 36 years of age, but his reflexes and muscle co-ordination are none the worse for wear.

In an early attack, a cross by Shane Long reached Graziano Pelle, who looked to have given the Saints an early lead – only to be denied by a superhuman flying save from Tim Howard.

In the match, a Phil Jagielka goal in the 16th minute gave the Toffees the lead and ultimately proved decisive. Everton improved to 11th in the EPL table with 37 points, while Southampton remained sixth with 53 points.

The American goalkeeper now has 123 clean sheets in 367 games in England’s top flight — the 10th most in history.
