A beleaguered Maldives side visit Territory Rugby League Stadium in Australia on Tuesday to face off with Timor-Leste in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. Timor-Leste also faced a defeat in their first qualifier, as Tajikistan beat them 1-0, with Vahdat Hanonov netting the only goal of the game in the third minute. It left them in third place in their group, only ahead of the Maldives by virtue of goal difference.

Interestingly, that was their sixth consecutive loss in official games across all competitions, painting a similarly grim picture of themselves as that of their next opponents.
