Tom Cleverley has admitted that Manchester United need to win practically all their remaining games if they are to have any hope of playing Champions League football next season, after dropping a further two points to sit 11 behind fourth-placed Liverpool with just 12 games to go.

Cleverley has faced a lot of criticism as an individual this season as United have struggled to produce the form that saw them win the league just last season, with the Red Devils currently languishing in seventh place in the league, 15 points away from the summit.

The England midfielder was just six years old the last time United failed to make the Champions League in 1995 and he realises that it is going to be a major ask for them to make it this time around.

Cleverley told reporters, “We need to win every game from now on.

“Liverpool getting a last minute winner is disappointing for us. Our result (0-0 v Arsenal) isn’t the worst in the world, but unfortunately we have lost more ground on the teams around us, so we really have to get our heads down and start winning quickly at Crystal Palace in ten days.”

Cleverley is hoping the warm weather training United are undertaking currently after flying out over the weekend due to a lack of FA Cup involvement will help their fortunes, having lost just two of their final 15 games last season following a stint in Qatar.

“We’ll get some warm weather training, we will be getting the lads together and it will help team spirit.

“We did it last year and it had a great effect on us, so hopefully it will have the same effect this year.”

Michael Carrick also spoke his desire to make the season end as well as possible and says the team is ignoring the criticism being aimed at them from outside the club.

“We get stick all the time. We are used to it.

“I thought we did a good job against Arsenal, not just in midfield as a unit, but as a team.

“Robin (Van Persie) and Wayne (Rooney) took up good positions. At the same time we had to defend as well.

“We limited them to not much space around the box and not too many chances. You could see their fans were getting frustrated. That is when I thought we might have nicked one and made it a fantastic night.”
