A year after Barcelona saw their European dream ended by Inter Milan, they came up against familiar foes in Manchester United who were fresh from being crowned English champions for the 20th time and the Mancunians had the advantage of playing the match on 'home turf' Wembley.

That, however, counted for little, as Barcelona were totally dominant, with Lionel Messi putting in a pristine individual performance to sink Sir Alex Ferguson's men to the sword and give Barcelona her fourth Champions League crown.

The Rosario native scored one and assisted twhe other two for Pedro and David Villa, while Wayne Rooney got on the scoresheet for the Premier League giants.

In the immediate aftermath of his treble triumph with Inter Milan, Jose Mourinho was appointed by Florentino Perez to limit Barcelona's total dominance both in Spain and on the continent.

It was, however, a baptism of fire for the Portuguse manager in his first El Clasico as Real Madrid manager, with a rampant Barcelona decimating his wards 5-0 in what was a totally one-sided affair.

Lionel Messi was the destroyer-in-chief and although he did not get on the scoresheet, he had a hand in all five goals, with Xavi opening the scoring in the 10th minute, while Pedro made it 2-0 soon after.

David Villa grabbed a quickfire brace in the second half and youngster Jeffren made it 5-0 with a goal off the bench in added time, while Sergio Ramos had earlier received his customary marching orders as the game descended into chaos.
