Liverpool vs AC Milan - UCL 2004/05
Steven Gerrard scores the first goal of the incredible comeback

Many of the readers will probably say that this fixture needs to be on the top of the list. They will rightly say so, as turning a 3-0 deficit in a UCL Final to a win is not something which happens quite normally.

The UCL Final is in itself a pretty tough game and going down in the 1st minute can be demotivating for the conceding team. This is what happened to Liverpool when Maldini volleyed in from a free-kick taken by Pirlo to score within 50 seconds of kick-off.

Hernan Crespo scored a brace in the 39th minute and the 44th minute respectively to give Milan an unassailable 3 goal lead before half-time.

Steven Gerrard reduced the lead in the 54th minute with a well-directed header. The Reds scored their second just after 2 minutes. This time Vladimir Smicer scored from a powerful long ranger. It was the 61st minute when Steven Gerrard was pulled down in the box.

The referee immediately pointed to the spot. Xabi Alonso was given the responsibility to complete the comeback. Dida saved Alonso's spot-kick but the rebound was scored easily by the same man - Alonso.

There was jubilation among the Liverpool players as well as the fans after the 3rd goal went in. The match remained 3-3 until the end of extra time. Both teams got their chances but were not able to capitalize.

Liverpool won 3-2 on penalties. Serginho missed the target for Milan, while the spot-kicks by Andrea Pirlo and Andriy Shevchenko were saved by Jerzy Dudek.
