Manchester United v Arsenal - FA Cup Quarter Final
Manchester United v Arsenal - FA Cup Quarter Final

Throughout the years we have had the privilege of witnessing some of the best strikers in the world, score some world class goals in this league, goals that have won titles, goals that have helped avoid relegation and those that have made us fall in love with the beautiful game.

Right from the likes of Cantona, Bergkamp, Shearer during the early periods of the league, to the likes of Ronaldo, Torres, Suarez etc in the modern day football, we have seen them all create magical moments on the field and leave us in awe. In this list, we will be taking a look at those players, which I feel stood up above the rest and hence deserve to be among the elite.

#5 Robbie Fowler

Fowler was known for his ruthlessness in front of the goal

The only striker in our list to have never won the Premier League, but that doesn't hinder his chances of making our list of top five. Fowler scored 162 Premier League goals in total in his spells at Liverpool, Man City and Leeds United.

His most successful spell was at Liverpool where he netted 128 times in total. Although left-footed, he was equally good with both his feet, while also being good with his head. He was also known for his creative play that allowed him to play link-ups with his teammates. He was immensely popular among the Anfield faithful and he had been nicknamed 'God' by them due to his prolific scoring nature.

#4 Sergio Aguero

Aguero is one of the best foreign players to have played in the league.

One of the most consistent striker that the Premier League has ever witnessed, this Argentine is known for his ruthlessness in front of the goal. He has the best goals per minute ratio of all the strikers who have scored a minimum of 10 goals!

With three Premier League titles to his name, Aguero has already become a legitimate Premier League legend. He is known for his cool one on one finishing and also for his unnerving accuracy.

Though having a natural poachers instinct, Aguero is not afraid to dribble past the defenders, something which has largely improved since the arrival of Pep Guardiola. His low centre of gravity makes it almost impossible for the opponents to stop him inside the box. His title-winning goal against QPR will always be remembered as one of the greatest moment in the history of Manchester City.

#3 Wayne Rooney

Rooney is a true Premier League and Manchester United great

Perhaps the most decorated Englishman of all time, Wayne has won it all at club level. With five Premier League titles and 208 Premier League goals to his name, it is easy to see why he makes his place in this list.

His commitment and energetic plays have earned him praise throughout the football world. Rooney is also known for his versatile play, perfectly playing in all the positions, that are assigned to him by the manager. He is also known for his set-piece play. His bicycle kick goal against Man City was voted as the best goal in the 20 seasons of the Premier League.

#2 Theirry Henry

One of the all-time great, this Frenchman was known for his dribbling skills and pace that allowed him to run past defenders with ease and also for his cool finishing in one on one situations.

He could also operate well on the left wing side, a position where he used to play during his early years. He was also known for his creative and unselfish play, that enabled him to provide many assists to the team.

He has won several individual awards like the Player of the Season on two occasions. Henry also played an important part in Wenger's Arsenal, that remained unbeaten throughout the 2003-04 season.

#1 Alan Shearer

Shearer is the all-time leading goalscorer in the history of the Premier League

The top scorer of all time in the English Premier League with 260 goals, it's hardly objectionable as to why he is the number 1 in our list. Shearer won the league with Blackburn in the 1994-95 season and was also the player of the season that year.

Though it was Blackburn where he enjoyed most of his success, it was at Newcastle United where he scored the majority of his goals. Shearer was known for his heading ability and strong shots that enabled him to score most of his goals.

He was also known for his physical play, something which brought him praise as well as criticism. Later on his career, he was often deployed as a target man when his legs had robbed him of his pace. He was also good at hold up play, linking up well with his teammates. He remains at the top of the goal chart to date and it looks like his record would stay there for a pretty long time.
