Top 5 strikers in the EPL 2017-18 season

Huddersfield Town v Manchester United - The Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round
Lukaku has 13 premier league goals this season

Strikers are usually the most famous of players as they are always likely to change the outcome of a match by scoring goals. A striker always has to be in top physical and mental shape along with possessing a lot of technique in order to be the best in the business.

The incredible quality which makes the EPL one of the leading football leagues in the world means some of the best strikers ply their trade in it. It has produced legendary strikers like Thierry Henry, Didier Drogba, and Alan Shearer over the years and the current crop are vying to make names for themselves.

#5 Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United)

Lukaku's Manchester United career so far has had it's ups and downs after making a £75 million switch from Everton last summer. The Belgian has frequently made mistakes but has 28 goal contributions this season which is no small feat.

Although he is constantly criticized for his first touch and ball controlling ability by the media and fans alike, the 24-year-old has good physicality, pace, finishing and heading ability, making him an ideal striker.

United are slowly starting to play to Lukaku's strengths, while he himself has worked hard to improve his link up and hold up play immensely compared to his Everton days. The big Belgian thrives on through balls where he can use his pace, physicality and finishing all at once to score.

His successful stint at Everton is only proof of him being one of the best in the EPL. With age on his side, it will be interesting to see how far he goes in his career.

#4 Alvaro Morata (Chelsea)

Chelsea v West Bromwich Albion - Premier League
Chelsea signed Morata for £70 million

Another player who has not lit up the league at his new club as expected of him, is Alvaro Morata. The Spanish striker was bought from Real Madrid in a club record deal and has seen his time at Stamford Bridge partly obstructed by injuries and suspension while showing brilliance at times.

The former Juventus man has 10 goals and 5 assists in 19 premier league appearances this season, which is not a bad tally at all. However, he is far behind fellow forwards Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and Mohammed Salah in the golden boot race, something he was expected to challenge for.

The Spaniard has a wide range of attributes and can be deployed as any type of striker. He has the pace to initiate counter-attacks, has great heading ability to be a target man and can even dribble and use skills to take on defenders. His shot power too is something that goalkeepers are wary of.

At only 25 years of age and with more EPL experience to come, he is expected to at least reach the level he was at for Juventus and Real Madrid.

#3 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)

Arsenal v Everton - Premier League
Aubameyang was one of the best strikers in Bundesliga

The player with the least EPL experience on this list, Aubameyang was signed by Arsenal for a Club record fee on deadline day in the January transfer window and made his debut only a few weeks ago. He bagged a goal on his first outing, a testimony to his amazing talent.

The Gabonese international made a name for himself as one of the best strikers in the game at Borrusia Dortmund, consistently scoring 30 goals a season for the German outfit. His goal to minute ratio in the Bundesliga was 2nd on the all time list, only behind the great Gerd Muller.

Although he is not a great dribbler like other strikers on this list, he is well known for his blistering pace, finishing and heading ability. The former AC Milan man can be a potent weapon for the gunners on counter attacks. He is just the type of striker Arsenal need due to their attacking nature of play.

With creative players like Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan flanking him, he is expected to get a flurry of chances and put the ball in the back of the net frequently.

#2 Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Manchester City v Leicester City - Premier League

Aguero is in his 7th season at Manchester City

In stark contrast to Aubameyang's EPL career, Aguero has been in the league for almost 7 years now, establishing himself as one of the greatest strikers ever in the league. He has been a mainstay in the squad for a major part of Sheikh Mansour's revolution and has become Manchester City's leading goal-scorer.

The Argentine forward has continued his impressive career under Pep Guardiola and has 21 EPL goals this season, just behind the unstoppable Kane and Salah. Some did expect him to get benched by young Gabriel Jesus, but his form and goal scoring antics have made him irreplaceable.

It can be said that Aguero is a classic South American striker. Previously Known as a serial goal poacher inside the box, he has now added pressing, a bit of physicality and assists to his game under Guardiola. He already has as many assists as he had in his last two seasons combined.

Now nearing the age of 30, he has become a prime example for other strikers to follow and definitely deserves his place in the EPL's greatest ever strikers list that many pundits currently place him in.

#1 Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Harry Kane is 2nd fastest player to reach 100 premier league goals

It is an understatement now, to say that Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the world at the moment. A product of Tottenham's academy, he has been their most valued possession during the current Pochettino era.

The Englishman has finished as the top goal scorer for 2 seasons in a row. He is also the leading goal scorer in the current season and finished 2017 with the highest goals in the calendar year, even beating the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Although he does not possess grace or flair like other top forwards in the world, he makes up for it with excellent close control, great finishing and the ability to score in every situation possible. It is safe to say that he is an old fashioned English striker who is giving defender's nightmares even in the era of tiki-taka and fluid football.

At only 24 years of age, if Kane can keep up his current form, he will definitely become the greatest striker in the EPL era. He is also widely expected to break Alan Shearer's all time EPL goal scoring record if he remains in the league for years to come.
