The Coimbatore based side escaped relegation very narrowly. They performed well when it mattered the most defeating teams like Churchill Brothers and the champions Minerva Punjab FC in their home ground in Coimbatore. The team is placed on the eighth position but the performance of many individuals was very eye-catching.

Now we will look at the top 5 impressive players

#5 Pandiyan Sinivasan

The 20 year old lad who was bought after performing exceptionally well for Viva Chennai under the guidance of Sabir Pasha, the assistant coach of Chennaiyin FC.

He ruled the midfield for Chennai City FC and combined well with Kim Dyeong. His long range shots are a treat to watch especially against Churchill Brothers where his shot from mid-line hit the post. Already he is on the ISL radar of many teams and will be a grab for the teams. He was adjudged as one of the fastest passers in the I-League.

#4 Jean Michel Joachim

Fondly called Junior by the fans, he was very much instrumental for the team when he scored against Mohun Bagan. In the recently concluded Super Cup Qualifiers where the team lost against ATK he had something to prove and his header was one of the best goals scored by him.

His form declined badly after the first five games where he scored in all the matches. He warmed the benches in the latter part of the league when he was replaced by the Serbian forward Aleksandar Rakic. However, he was livewire in his position and was always a threat to the defenders.

#3 Veniamin Shumeiko

The Kyrgyzstani defender was acquired by the team to support former Pune City player and Churchill Brothers Captain Dharmaraj Ravanan. He always stopped the momentum through his defence and without him the team would have struggled. He combined well with Slovenian goalkeeper Uros Poljanec but the latter got injured in the match against Mohun Bagan.

Fomer coach V. Soundararajan adjusted the defence and made him to play forward whenever the team needed a goal. His header against Mohun Bagan was one of the defining moments of the game. He was one of the best centrebacks in the I-League.

#2 Edwin Sydney Vanspaul

He was one of the most compatible players of the team. He suited his coach's plans perfectly and he could play in any position. In the latter part of the season, he was made to play in the left full-back position at the expense of Sebastian from his usual position of right winger and he performed it with perfection.

The greatly skilled player assisted Soosai to score against Minerva in their penultimate game. He would most likely be the next captain of Chennai City FC. He has great all-round skills and is one of the best wingers in the league.

#5 Michael Soosairaj

The CCFC Captain has impressed with his performances in spite of his team's disappointing run. He has 3 goals and 4 assists to his name. The man from Kanyakumari, a coastal district in Tamil Nadu was recently bought by Jamshedpur FC for 25 Lakhs. He has great dribbling skills and ball control and can move past defenders with ease. He is a great asset for Jamshedpur FC.
