Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United - Premier League
United were tactically outclassed by Tottenham

David De Gea - 6/10

The Spaniard could not be blamed for conceding either of the goals. United's custodian came up with some decent saves to prevent the scoreline from becoming embarrassing.

Antonio Valencia - 5/10

Valencia was often found in a position of discomfort against the left side of Spurs' attack and was very lucky not to concede a penalty in the first half. Overall, it was a below-par display from the Ecuadorian.

Chris Smalling - 5/10

Smalling was often rash in his challenges and was bullied by Kane for most parts of the game.

Phil Jones - 4/10

Jones was at fault for conceding both goals. For the first goal, he was outdone by Harry Kane in the aerial duel and his night got worse when he scored past his own keeper for Tottenham's second.

Ashley Young - 5/10

The left-back failed to provide any sort of attacking threat for his side and can be partially blamed for his positioning during the build-up to the first goal. Overall, it was a disappointing outing for Young.

Nemanja Matic - 5/10

Matic was ineffective for most parts of the game and was easily bypassed by Spurs' attacking quartet. The Serbian lost possession on a number of occasions and failed to perform his task of shielding his back four.

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United - Premier League
Pogba was ineffective against Spurs

Paul Pogba - 4/10

It was a night to forget for the Frenchman as he was well marshalled by the midfield duo of Dier and Dembele. He failed to support the attack and was replaced by Mata shortly after the hour mark.

Jese Lingard - 4/10

Lingard could not do much to help his side reduce arrears. He was sloppy in possession and was replaced by Marouane Fellaini in the 63rd minute.

Anthony Martial - 5/10

The French international was well marked by Kieran Trippier, who did not allow him to have a sight of goal. Martial also spurned some chances which could have altered the final result.

Alexis Sanchez - 5/10

Manchester United's winter recruit flattered to deceive during his Premier League debut. Sanchez lost possession on numerous occasion and ran out of ideas to break down a resolute Spurs defence.

Romelu Lukaku - 5/10

Lukaku was often an isolated figure up front. The Belgian failed to get the better of the opposition's centre-backs and cut a sorry figure in yet another big game.

Substitutes:

Marouane Fellaini - N/A

Fellaini had to be taken off seven minutes after coming on as he suffered a niggle during the course of the game.

Juan Mata - 4/10

The Spaniard was introduced in the second half to add some creativity and flair, which he clearly failed to execute.

Ander Herrera - 4/10

Herrera replaced Fellaini in the 70th minute but couldn't do much to help his side get back in the game.
