For a long time, it looked like 2020-21 would be the season that would see Dele Alli leave Tottenham after six seasons at the club.

Jose Mourinho largely froze out the attacker, but after some clear-the-air talks in February, the Portuguese boss decided to give him another chance.

And Dele repaid Mourinho’s faith with one of the most spectacular goals in his Tottenham career.

Early in the first leg of Spurs’ Europa League tie with Wolfsberger AC, a swift attack started by Dele found Matt Doherty on the right side of the pitch.

The Irishman crossed the ball into the box – where Dele took one touch before unleashing a remarkable bicycle kick into the back of the net.

It was Dele’s first goal from open play since January 2020, and it was a strike worth waiting for. Tottenham fans will now be hoping for more of the same in Premier League action.

#2 Tanguy Ndombele – Tottenham vs. Sheffield United, Premier League

Tottenham fans have always known that Tanguy Ndombele is capable of special things. And the mercurial Frenchman went about proving that in January’s win over Sheffield United.

The goal he scored against the Blades was both beautiful and downright ludicrous in equal measure.

Some quick interplay between Ndombele and Steven Bergwijn saw the Frenchman head into the Blades’ box.

And with the ball bouncing and two Sheffield players around him, he somehow flicked it into the air with the outside of his boot, swerving it above and beyond the dive of Aaron Ramsdale.

It was one of the most unique goals the Premier League has ever seen, and a reminder that when he’s on, Ndombele is capable of things most players can only dream of pulling off.

#1 Erik Lamela – Tottenham vs. Arsenal, Premier League

It didn’t lead to a win for Tottenham, but this goal from Erik Lamela will probably be remembered as one of the greatest in the club’s history, as well as the history of the Premier League.

Tottenham had actually been under pressure from Arsenal when a rare attack led to Lucas Moura finding the ball just inside the Gunners’ penalty area.

Lucas laid it back to Lamela, who somehow managed to hit a rabona shot – with his left leg curving around his right – through the legs of Thomas Partey and into the bottom left corner.

Quite how the Argentine pulled this one off is anyone’s guess. To even try something like this in a big derby game is insane. But it’s also entirely in line with Lamela’s unpredictable style.

The stunned look on the face of his teammate Sergio Reguilon said it all, really – this was a one-of-a-kind goal.
