Reports: Tottenham ready to sell star midfielder

Stoke City v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
A bad decision?

What’s the rumour?

According to reports from Mirror, Tottenham are ready to listen to offers for Mousa Dembele this summer. The Belgian has been producing a string of consistent performances for a long time now.

In case you didn't know...

While the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli are grabbing the headlines, a player who needs to be equally credited for is Dembele. He has been simply incredible over the past couple of years and is the engine which makes Spurs tick.

Since his move to Spurs in 2012 from Fulham, the Belgian has made 233 appearances for the club and has emerged to be their midfield enforcer in recent years.

His current contract runs out in 2019.

The heart of the matter

The 30-year-old is held in very high regard by the manager as well as the fans, but he has reportedly put negotiations over an improved contract on hold. The player had made this summer's World Cup his top priority and is likely to enter into negotiations only after the tournament.

Spurs, though not actively looking to sell the player, are prepared to welcome an interest with open hands unless they can tie him up to a new contract. They are also looking to sign a couple of midfielders this summer.

Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes and Bryan Cristante of Atalanta are potential targets as per the same report.

Rumour rating/probability - 4/10

There is no concrete information yet that suggests Dembele will be sold and it is very unlikely that Spurs will sell their star player.

Author’s take

Dembele has evolved to be one of Spurs' best assets and it will be foolish on their part to sell a player having so much influence in their games.
