And as always, there are stories which make headlines irrespective of the transfer window being open or shut. Though the transfer world has been a bit slow today, we have managed to get a bunch of stories that made headlines.

Chelsea and Manchester United want Robert Lewandowski

According to the ever trusted Sky Sports, Manchester United and Chelsea are set to go head-to-head to sign the enigmatic Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker is reportedly looking for a way out of Bayern Munich in the summer and has hence hired super agent Pini Zahavi to engineer a move away from the Allianz Arena.

It is not expected to be an easy task with Lewandowski contracted with Bayern until 2021 and the club not being in need of funds at the moment. Also considering that both the clubs in questioned signed a high profile striker in the summer each, it will be interesting to see how this pans out. Along with the Premier League giants, Real Madrid and PSG are also keeping tabs on the in-demand striker.

Max Meyer rejects Schalke's offer

Sport Bild has claimed that Max Meyer has rejected a second contract renewal offer from Schalke yesterday. His current deal expires in the summer. The Bundesliga side had reportedly offered a new deal worth €5.5 million per year, which was instantly rebuffed by the Germany international. The youngster will hence leave for free in the summer.

Napoli name their price for Piotr Zielinski

In order to fend off rising interest from Liverpool, Napoli have slapped a €65 million price on the head of Piotr Zielinski. Teamtalk has reported that Liverpool are set to go back for the 23-year-old midfielder after missing out on his signature two years ago.

Zielinski is one of the top-rated midfielders in Serie A at the moment and has been compared to Kevin De Bruyne by Napoli's head coach Maurizio Sarri.

Huge interest in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from all around Europe

The 22-year-old Lazio midfielder has been linked in recent weeks with the who's who of European football. Real Madrid, Manchester United and PSG have all been linked with the Serb who has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season.

Confirming an interest in his client, his agent Mateja Kezman was quoted by the Goal (original report by Tuttomercatoweb) as saying, "There's huge interest in him from great clubs in Italy, England, Spain and France. I don't want to talk about numbers, but I'm sure Sergei has it in him to be the best player in Europe in the next few years."

List of candidates to replace Arsene Wenger revealed

Arsenal board directors are set to review Arsene Wenger's performance this season in the summer and it is widely believed that this may be the last year in charge for the veteran manager. The Telegraph reports that the Gunners hierarchy are looking to relieve Wenger of his managerial duties at the end of the season.

The English daily has compiled a seven-man shortlist, out of whom one is expected to take over the mantle from the Frenchman. The list includes Carlo Ancelotti, Joachim Low, Paulo Fonseca, Leonardo Jardim, Brendan Rodgers, Mikel Arteta and Thierry Henry. While Henry and Arteta don't have enough experience, the likes of Jardim and Rodgers seem exciting prospects to take over at the London club.

Chelsea table a new offer for Eden Hazard

The Blues know of Real Madrid's interest in their star man and have hence made making Eden Hazard sign a new contract their No.1 priority. The Daily Mail understands that Chelsea value Hazard at around £200 million and will offer him a new deal worthy of that price. If he signs an extension, Hazard will reportedly earn £300,000 per week plus bonuses and it will make it that much harder for Real Madrid to prise him away from Chelsea.

Manchester United to rival Manchester City for Isco

Real Madrid face an uphill task of keeping Isco at the Bernabeu beyond the current season. Don Balon via the Daily Star have claimed that Isco is set to leave Real Madrid if Zinedine Zidane remains in charge of Los Blancos for the next campaign. Under the Frenchman, the Spanish playmaker has been in and out of the side for the majority of the time.

It is also reported that both the Manchester clubs are looking to sign Isco with Jose Mourinho 'willing to do anything' to beat City to sign the 25-year-old. The Tribuna further claims that United will make a €200 million bid for Isco and will offer him £17.6 million per year in wages.

FC Barcelona keep tabs on Toby Alderweireld

The central defender's £25 million release clause next summer has alerted a number of top clubs around Europe. The Independent reports that FC Barcelona are seriously looking at the prospect of making a big-money move for the Belgian defender at the end of the campaign.

Alderweireld is not ready to sign an extension with Spurs unless he gets a pay raise which does not fit the bill in the club's strict wage structure.

Borussia Dortmund enter Malcom race

Yesterday, we had reported that Bayern Munich are interested in signing Malcom from Bordeaux. The Sun has today claimed that Borussia Dortmund have entered the race for the exciting winger. Malcom has been one of the most impressive players in France this season and has notched up eight league goals.

Bordeaux value him at more than £50 million. Dortmund are seeking a replacement for Ousmane Dembele and have earmarked Malcom for the wide role.

MLS clubs want Scott Arfield

The only Canadian in the Premier League, Scott Arfield is attracting attention from the likes of Vancouver Whitecaps and Montreal Impact. The Sun claims that both the Canadian sides are looking to sign him up on a free transfer in the summer and are seeing him as a 'designated player' (marquee player in simpler terms) for their sides. Arfield has been playing for Burnley for the past five years and along with Brady and Gudmundsson, is part of the engine of Burnley's midfield.
