Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane believes his exchange on Twitter with India's cricketing superstar Virat Kohli was a great sign of mutual respect and admiration between two athletes at the top of their game. Kane had earlier tweeted his appreciation for Virat Kohli's batting under pressure after a great knock by the Indian against Australia.
That match was a virtual knockout for both India and Australia, and with Australia in control of the game, Virat Kohli stepped up and took his team to victory with five balls to spare, in what was a thrilling win for the Indians. Chasing 161, the 2007 World T20 champions were in a spot of bother, but Kohli, with some help from Dhoni, took over the game completely, seizing the initiative during the course of his blistering knock of 82 off 51 balls.
Following the match, Kane had tweeted his thoughts on the game, talking about how Virat Kohli was very calm under pressure and always delivered when it mattered.
After the match, the Indian responded to the England striker's tweet, thanking him for his kind words, and paying him a compliment on his goal for England against Germany in the former's 3-2 win. The Indian test team captain also wished Kane and Tottenham the best in their pursuit of the Premier League title.
Speaking after England's win in their semi-final against New Zealand, Kane said, “I do enjoy the T20 style of play. I was watching the World Cup while I was away on international duty. The India versus Australia game was a good one to watch and Virat Kohli obviously put on a good performance, a special performance that won his side the game and got them through to the semi-finals.”
He added, “I put a little tweet out to show my appreciation for it and I found out that he is a big football fan and he tweeted me back. It was great to have that respect from a fellow sportsman.”
Kane hopes England can defeat West Indies in the final
Harry Kane also wished the England team the best of luck for the final against the West Indies, and hoped that they come back with the trophy. He said, “England had a great semi-final against New Zealand and hopefully they can go all the way and win it.”
The striker added, “They have stepped up when it mattered in the group stage and there was some great performances from the team. I will be watching on Sunday and hopefully they can get the win.”
