Twitter explodes as Zidane refuses to sign a striker in January

After barely beating Al Jazira in the semi-final of the Club World Cup, thanks to a goal from Gareth Bale, many quarters of the Madrid fanbase want the club to sign a striker to fight with Karim Benzema for a starting spot.

The Frenchman has been in terrible goalscoring form, scoring just 5 times in all competitions this season. His backup, Borja Mayoral, has scored only 1 less despite playing less than even half of the Frenchman.

Despite that, Zinedine Zidane claimed that he is not looking for a striker in January as he trusts his compatriot. Indeed, if reports from Marca are to be believed, then the legendary Frenchman is said to have convinced Florentino Perez to not sign anyone in the winter.

Obviously, the fans were upset about it--and they showed it on Twitter...

It was one of the reasons Ancelotti was sacked. He started casillas over Keylor for a whole season even though casillas didn't reach a top level at any point that season. Zidane is doing the same with benzema.

I hope Zidane's obsession with Benzema does not cost him his job. A few winter signings seem absolutely must if we aim to retain the Champions League for a third time. Simply put, Benzema seems finished. Although he has done a lot for Madrid, it's time to replace him soon.

It seems as though none of the fans are happy about Zidane's insistence on keeping faith Karim Benzema and opting out of signing a striker in January. Only goodness knows how true these rumours are, but the resulting responses show how much the fans crave for a striker.
