Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud walked away with the 2017 Puskas Award for Goal of the Year after his Scorpion-Kick goal against Crystal Palace on New Year's Day was voted for by the majority of the fans on FIFA's official website.

The French striker had admirers in a number of famous personalities in the audience including Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Frank Lampard, Peter Schmeichel and Antonio Conte. Even host Idris Elba, who is an Arsenal fan himself, when Diego Forlan and Catherine Zeta-Jones announced that the French striker was the winner.

"I would like to thank the people who voted for me and congratulate the 10 nominees who scored amazing goals," Giroud said. "Obviously, I'd also like to thank my teammates without whom I wouldn't have scored that goal.

"I'd also like to thank my family and I'd love to dedicate this trophy to my dad."
