What a night for Liverpool!

The much-awaited first leg of the semi-finals of this year's UEFA Champions League didn't disappoint as Liverpool ran out 5-2 winners over AS Roma.

It was the Mohammed Salah show once again as he scored a brace and set up another two to inspire Liverpool and help them put one foot (or both feet!) into the final.

Both of his goals were things of beauty as he opened the scoring with a delightful curling effort and doubled the lead with an even delightful chip. Mane and Firmino also got on the score sheet after brilliant work from Salah.

Firmino scored again in the 68th minute as he headed past Alisson from Milner's corner.

Roma, however, failed to lie down and fought back with spirit. Dzeko scored their first after being picked out by a brilliant ball over the top from Naingollan and Perotti bagged their second from the spot after Milner was penalized for a handball inside the box.

A nervy end for the English club as they take a 5-2 lead to Italy next week.

And as you can expect, Twitter had a field day:
