With the international break denying football fans much to talk about, Manchester United midfielder, Marouane Fellaini, has sparked a social media frenzy with his new haircut. The big Belgian has always been known for his afro hair since he emerged on the football scene.

However, the 30-year-old has now decided to cut his hair, bringing an end to the years of growing that famous afro. In fact, we are not the only ones surprised. Most of Fellaini’s teammates, the Manchester United official Twitter page, and many other football fans did not expect it.

On Wednesday, the former Everton midfielder tweeted a photo of himself putting on a low cut, with his afro gone. Within hours, the number of comments the said tweet received was simply intriguing.

Fellaini said in the caption that his new haircut was in anticipation of his birthday – he turns 31 on Thursday, 15 November 2018. “New year, new look #birthdaytomorrow,” he simply wrote.

Forget about the fact that Manchester United lost the derby to neighbours City just two days ago, Fellaini’s latest haircut is what has taken over the social media trends. The Belgium international has had a tough start to the season, with injuries hampering his campaign.

However, he has enjoyed plenty of game time under Jose Mourinho in recent weeks, and he played a key role in Man United’s 2-1 comeback win over Juventus in the Champions League a fortnight ago. Fellaini also lasted the full 90 minutes when The Red Devils fell 3-1 to Man City over the weekend.

Until now, his exclusion from the Belgium squad for this month’s UEFA Nations League was what put him in the spotlight. However, his decision to do away with his afro hairdo is now the major talking point surrounding the midfielder.

Lets take a look at some of the best tweets after Fellaini posted photos of his new haircut.
