Manchester United may have beaten Tottenham Hotspur last night, but the main highlights of the game were the saves made by goalkeeper David de Gea. The Spaniard produced a man-of-the-match performance to help the Red Devils to all three points at Wembley.

De Gea has endured a tough season thus far, having kept just four clean sheets after 22 match-days. However, on Sunday, he proved why many still regard him as the best goalkeeper in the world.

With Marcus Rashford putting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in front towards the end of the first half, Spurs returned after the break firing from all angles. The home side dominated proceedings and created a host of chances in the process.

However, their efforts were constantly thwarted by De Gea’s gloves. The Man United goalie made 11 saves to ensure that the Reds kept a clean sheet in the game. He made stunning saves from a flurry of shots from Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Son Heung Min. Not to mention, the one off Toby Alderweireld as well.

His last-gasp save to deny Fernando Llorente was also one of the highlights of the game, as United ran out 1-0 winners. As much as the result was massive for the club – who have now moved level on points with 5th-placed Arsenal – De Gea’s heroics have got him trending on social media.

The former Atletico Madrid goalie was simply unplayable against Spurs and the reaction of his teammates after the full-time whistle typifies his importance to the side.

On Twitter though, there are a whole range of opinions and comments surrounding the goalkeeper and his heroics on the night. While some believe he is the best goalkeeper in the world, others insist most of the efforts from Tottenham were straightforward and therefore would have been saved by any other goalkeeper for that matter.

No matter where you stand, the tweets are bound to interest you. So let’s take a look at some of the best tweets.
