Twitter trolls Real Madrid fans for Champions League exit despite saying they didn't need Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid v Ajax - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: Second Leg

Real Madrid suffered their third consecutive defeat this week as they crashed out of the Champions League following a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Dutch giants Ajax on Tuesday night.

Ajax walked into the game with a vengeance and overturned their deficit from the first leg to secure a quarter-final spot with the 5-3 aggregate victory.

The defeat also marks the first time since 2015 that Real Madrid crashed out of Europe's elite competition.

Real Madrid's European empire came crumbling down as goals from Hakim Ziyech, David Neres, Dusan Tadic and Lasse Schone added to the wounds that were inflicted following two consecutive losses.

Los Blancos crashed out of the Copa del Rey after their second leg defeat to arch-rivals Barcelona last week. This was followed by another defeat to the Blaugrana in LaLiga three days later, putting a long-term dent on their hopes of winning the domestic title.

The recent defeats have put Santiago Solari in a compromising position as he has now lost his only chance to redeem himself and the team this season.

Speaking after the game, the Argentine manager said, "It's really painful, we're sorry for our fans, who were amazing in the way they supported the team in what was a very tough time.

"We're sad and are hurting. We put in the best possible effort but it wasn't enough and we've bowed out. It's a sad night.

"A lot of things went on out there. It was a game in which things frequently changed. There was a bit of everything: enforced substitutions, shots hitting the woodwork, the ball not wanting to go in, their clinicalness, the VAR system… An endless amount of things that you'll have to assess."

Real Madrid is, of course, no stranger to disappointment this season as the club has been impacted by the loss of Zinedine Zidane and Cristino Ronaldo last summer.

Despite the departures, Los Blancos fans remained optimistic and were keen on moving on, saying they did not need Ronaldo to do what they have always done.

Twitter has now brought up those sentiments in trolling Real Madrid for their most recent loss:
