UEFA Euro 2016: French TV host 'passes over' from the studio to the field thanks to augmented reality

The future has arrived

A television interview recently before the Spain vs Turkey match in Nice has gone viral on the internet after it appeared that the presenter, Nathalie Renoux, walked into a 'screen' and appeared pitch-side besides Carine Galli – who at the time was on the sidelines at Nice.

That is the incident in question. Ms Renoux gets off her chair in the studio and appears to walk right into the sidelines of the field by simply crossing over a giant frame – again, in the studio of the French broadcasting media house, M6.

M6 owe this 'passing over' from the studio to the Nice stadium to augmented reality – which they've acknowledged everywhere this video is up. When BuzzFeed News contacted M6 about the using of augmented reality and why and how they did it, the spokesperson said, “The main idea was to be focused on the immersion of our audience in the Euro 2016 event. In simple words, we would like to be really close to the fields and the venues wherever you were watching the game.”

Even Carine Galli – the one who is approached inside the frame – was impressed by the trick and expressed it on Twitter.

It is a fantastic trick by the media house but not the first time they've done something like this. Earlier in the summer, M6 interviewed French midfielder Dimitri Payet and he seemed to appear out of thin air into the studio – almost sci-fi-esque.

This is the moment he appeared on the TV
It looks like as if Payet is in the studio with the presenters
Although, this is how he 'got' to the studio – a green screen behind him and a bunch of screens ahead

We really hope they do this more often and that the broadcasters who cater to the Indian market do something similar.
