The last few months have been promising and rather busy for United youngster Robbie Brady, who has made a surprisingly significant impact on both a club and international level. Brady was given his first chance in the first team during the summer pre-season tour, and also played in his first competitive game for United against Newcastle in the League Cup a few weeks ago.
Continuing to impress Sir Alex Ferguson at United, Brady was also called up for his first full cap for the Republic of Ireland against Oman where he was on fine form; scoring on his debut and also setting up a further two assists. At the time of writing, Brady is currently away with his national team for their World Cup qualifiers – a sign of how Brady has clearly left his mark when given the chance on the international scene.
The promise shown by Brady has caught they eye of Ferguson, who has apparently been keen on the youngster for a long time, and according to Sky Sports United have rejected numerous offers from Championship clubs to send Brady out on loan. Last year Brady performed consistently well for Hull City, making 39 appearances for the club and his good form for his national side has lead to an influx of interest from Championship sides looking for a cheap and effective option down the left flank.
Sky Sports states “Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Burnley are all thought to have made bids to land the highly-rated Brady from the Red Devils.” As a left winger, the stance from United is certainly interesting considering Nani was left out completely from United’s squad for the match against Newcastle last weekend, and Ashley Young remains injured. Although our overall strength on the wings is strong, it’s surprising how little back-up we have.
It all means that Brady could feature more this year than many would’ve imagined. Being young you could argue that Brady would benefit more from a loan deal and regular first team football, but with the future of Nani more uncertain than ever, you just don’t know how useful Brady could be in a few months. When Ferguson holds a 20 year-old in high regard you know that they’re going to be exciting to watch, and it would no longer be at all surprising to see the Irish international become the next player from the youth academy to make the step up to the top.
