Rio De Janeiro - Uruguay captain Diego Lugano is reportedly in talks with Brazilian clubs Sao Paulo and Gremio about a possible move in the January transfer window.

The 31-year-old has fallen out of favour with Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti, who has preferred Brazilian pairing Alex and Thiago Silva at centre-back this season, reports Xinhua.

Brazil’s Radio Guaiba reported Saturday that Lugano has been impressed by the plans of new Gremio president Fabio Koff, who has promised big signings ahead of the club’s likely qualification for next year’s Copa Libertadores.

Lugano has already expressed his desire to move to a club where “he will play more often” although he says he will stay in Paris if he is wanted.

The 31-year-old has also been strongly linked with a return to Sao Paulo, where he played from 2003 to 2006 and was a part of the club’s 2005 Copa Libertadores and FIFA Club World Cup-winning teams.
