Uruguay end Copa America campaign with 3-0 win over Jamaica

Santa Clara (California), June 14 (IANS) Uruguay ended their Copa America Centenario football tournament campaign with a 3-0 win against Jamaica in a Group C match at Levi's Stadium here.

Abel Hernandez started the scoring with a pinpoint pass from Nicolas Lodeiro in the 21st minute here on Monday. It was the two team's final group phase match.

Jamaica's Je-Vaughn Watson deflected a cross past his own goalkeeper Andre Blake for Uruguay's second goal in the 66th minute and Matias Corujo completed the scoreline in the 88th minute.

Both teams were already eliminated from the tournament with losses in each of their first two group matches.

The three goals in the match brought the total number of goals scored to 2,500 in 100 years of the Copa America competition.

Uruguay was the better team throughout, their attack generating far more chances than Jamaica's.

Jamaica left the tournament as the only team unable to score a goal.
