Ryan Giggs hopes to extend his glittering Manchester United playing career

The Welsh veteran, Ryan Giggs, will be celebrating his 40th birthday this week. He made his debut for the Red Devils way back in 1991 and has played his trade with club legends Steve Bruce, Eric Cantona and now, over two decades later, with upcoming youngsters like Janujaz and Lingaard.

Just to put this into perspective, the man has 954 appearances under his belt, entering the 25th year of his professional career, for one of the most celebrated clubs in world football. Not a bad record to have, is it?

Ryan Giggs might have given thought to hanging his boots up, but admits that he could continue if he remains in David Moyes’s plans. If he does continue, he could eclipse a mind-boggling 1000 appearances for the club, which would be another record in his kitty.

When asked about it, he said, “I honestly don’t know. It’s not something I can say that I’ve thought seriously about.”

The winger has achieved everything there is to achieve in English football. His former team-mate, and a great in his own right, Gary Neville, says Giggs has immortalised his name in football history, and will go down as one of the greatest to have ever graced the English game.

“He’s got to go down as probably one of the greatest players that’s ever played in the Premiership,” said Neville.

“He’s still achieving, he’s still got the same determination he’s still making an impact every time he plays”

Neville goes on to add that Giggs has every chance of reaching that milestone, and is all praises for his former United youth team compatriot.

“He’s a fantastic human being and I can see him playing until he’s 41 because he looks after himself so much. He’s got to keep going and producing the levels that he’s doing, but if anyone can do it then Ryan Giggs can, he’s smashed every record that’s been put in front of him.”
