Video: Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen with a great piece of chest control under pressure

Marc-Andre ter Stegen is growing into his role as the Barcelona goalkeeper

Barcelona defeated Elche 4-0 away from home in the second leg of their Copa del Rey encounter, as they completed a 9-0 victory on aggregate.

However, one moment during the match stood out, when the Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen delighted the crowd with a display of great composure, as he controlled the ball on his chest and cleared the ball before the situation could develop into a genuine threat.

This win was another strong performance from the Catalans as they continue to recover from the defeat they suffered to Real Sociedad in La Liga two weeks ago. Since that day, they have defeated Atletico Madrid 3-1, and then demolished Elche over the course of both legs in the Spanish Cup.

Although Barcelona were very good against Elche, their goalkeeper Ter Stegen was required to make a vital intervention during the match as the ball was played towards the Blaugrana's penalty box with their defence running back to prevent the Elche forwards from getting on to the ball.

The German shot stopper stepped out calmly, controlled the ball beautifully on his chest, and nonchalantly kicked it to safety. That sort of decision-making and decisive thinking on his part is what made the Catalan giants spend €12 million to secure his signature.

Ter Stegen is touted to be the successor to Manuel Neuer for the German national team, and although the latter is currently the best goalkeeper and one of the best players in the world, he sure has good competition to challenge him for the number one spot for Germany.
