On Saturday night, Stoke City beat Arenal 3-2 at the Britannia with the Gunners down to 10 men after Calum Chambers was sent off. The Potters scored all their goals in the first half with Peter Crouch, Bojan Krkic and Jonathan Walters getting on the scoresheet.

Arsenal mounted a comeback scoring two goals in rapid succession – a penalty put away by Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey also scoring from just inside the box. But a second yellow card to Calum Chambers gave the North London club too huge a mountain to climb.

Was Charlie Adam ‘tackle’ a red card?

But the biggest talking point was Charlie Adam’s ‘tackle’ on Alexis Sanchez that only earned him a yellow card from referee Anthony Taylor.

The first contact was definitely a yellow card booking when he caught Alexis by the shoulders. To his credit, the Chilean international tried to get away from the challenge and get to the ball.

But Adam refused to let go and dangerously clung on to Alexis with what can only be termed a headlock in wrestling terms. To put things in perspective, such a foul is not even allowed in rugby and players are sent to the sin-bin and made to sit out for 10 minutes of the game.
