Video: Colombian Giovanni Moreno scores stunning bicycle kick for Shanghai Shenhua

The Colombian midfielder pulled off a brilliantly skillful move to create a goal out of nowhere.

Shanghai Giovanni Moreno

Chinese football club Shanghai Shenhua have in recent history brought in oodles of talent from around the globe. Some of their major imports include the likes of Didier Drogba and Nicholas Anelka who have both since moved on. They went on to sign another Chelsea striker as replacement – Demba Ba. But apart from high-profile names, they also have been securing talent from different countries and luring them to the Chinese league with the allure of making some extra cash.

One of those imports is the Colombia Giovanni Moreno. He’s a dynamic attacking midfielder who can in his best moments provide scenes of beautifully constructed goals and skills. Playing against Shanghai East Asia, he produced one of those moments of magic that would drop your jaw and leave you awe-struck.

You might remember the player because he’s done it before, from the same angle and with the same team.

Quite early in the game, in only the 8th minute, Shanghai won a freekick deep in midfield – a seemingly harmless position. Instead of floating the ball in over the top, the player zoomed the ball along the right into the path of Giovanni Moreno, who in a single move stopped the ball with his chest and flicked it up. The set-up had to be perfect for what came next, a bicycle kick timed to perfection arcing into the goal beating all in its way including the goalkeeper.

As he ran to dropkick the corner flag in celebration, the stadium and his manager could only applaud in awe at the midfielder’s ability. If you look at Demba Ba carefully, you’ll see him react to the incredulity of the skill and that sums up the difficulty of what the Colombian achieved in a that moment when time seemed to stand still.

It might be something he may never do again, but his moment in the sun is surely not one to be missed.

Here’s the video of the goal:
