First half goals from Didier Drogba and Gervinho and a second half one from Salomon Kalou made sure that Ivory Coast qualified for their third World Cup in a row. Papiss Demba Cisse pulled one back for Senegal during stoppage time.
The second leg will be played in Morocco next month, because Senegal are barred from playing at home.
